The government of Lithuania has decided to export grain to Georgia,reports Business Georgia. According to the prime minister of Georgia,Nika Gilaury, the export of grain from Lithuania and Ukraine willtotally cover the needs of the country. Negotiations with the USA arealso being held, however.The ambassador of Georgia in Ukraine, Grigol Katamadze, stated that anagreement with Ukraine has been reached and by the end of the year150,000 tons of grain will be imported.Annually, Georgia needs 800,000 tons of grain. 15% of this the countryproduces, but the other 85%was imported from Russia and Kazakhstan.However, due to the recent halt of the Russian export of grain due towildfires the main exporters to Georgia are now Kazakhstan, the USA,and Ukraine.The head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia also stated thatthey plan to improve the production of grain in the country and by2013 to produce 45% of the country's requirements.
